Colin Cooper Visits Glasgow Scotland
Those of you who think Scotland can be visited in just few days are greatly underestimating the sights and sound of this great but small country. Look past the bigotry of the SNP and you will find a country steeped in history and embracing many cultures. Today’s trip takes me to Glasgow - Scotland’s largest city.
Today we explore the Byers Road area of the West End starting from the botanic gardens at the top with the beautiful Kibble Palace - a Victorian glass house set in a woodland park land with many walks and sights. Looking out the twin lodge houses to the Aron Mor - once a church but now a pub and club famed for doing a pie a play( a Pie and a pint for very little money.) This venue is a well established venue for gay weddings.
Wandering down Byrers Road there are still many wonderful independent shops and eateries. Pop into the Byres Toad Book Club for a hot chocolate and immerse yourself into a bygone era. Follow into the University of Glasgow famed for its excellence, the cloisters and the gothic centre tower. In its campus you will also find a MacIntosh House and the Huntarian Museum.
It is a very short walk to the Kelvin Grove Art Gallery. From here, a short bus trip and short walk takes you to the New Riverside Museum home of the last remaining sea going tallships. This gallery replaced the original transport museum and, despite its sleek modern look, houses a by gone era.
Just this little adventure took a whole day! And we still have the city centre, south side and the east side to do!
Cheers!
