The Empire State Building Observatory Experience $165 million Renovation Is Complete
The Empire State Building Observatory Experience has now re-opened! As of December 2019, the $165 million renovation project is complete, offering various exhibits, rich with history, and immaculate New York City views from the top of the world’s most famous building.
With unexpected alterations of childcare and summer camp plans, families and children are welcomed to make the Empire State Building (ESB) their playground for a fulfilling, fun, and safe summer activity. The second-floor galleries feature immersive and educational exhibits that take visitors on a behind the scenes tour of the building starting at the root of it all---the construction site. For more historical information please visit https://www.esbnyc.com/about/history. The museum also explores energy efficiency, the building's role as an urban campus, and famous presence in pop culture.
Do you remember that giant ape who climbed the skyscraper? Get up close and personal with King Kong for an awesome photo opp. Climb into King Kong’s giant hands and strike a pose! For more pop-culture fun, visit the celebrity exhibit showing clips of the most loved movies, and the celebrity corridor showing all the famous faces that have visited the top of the Empire State Building, such as the Simpsons and Big Bird.
The creative learning continues at the 80th floor exhibits where visitors are encouraged to create a personalized NYC trip itinerary from the top of the ESB, learn about the creation of the famed music-to-light shows, check out different panoramic views from nine New York locations, and more.
The Empire State Building is committed to providing an educational experience for children and other visitors alike. To learn more about the educational opportunities and materials designated by age group please visit the education center at https://www.esbnyc.com/about/education-center.
The Empire State Building prioritizes family safety. Visits will be limited to below New York State’s Phase 4 capacity guidelines.
