Florida's Treasure Coast - How to Get the Most of 48 Hours on Florida's Treasure Coast
Florida's Treasure Coast - How to Get the Most of 48 Hours on Florida's Treasure Coast
Boomers and Millennials have a lot in common, especially when it comes to fulfillment from travel experiences. These similarities have added the term “boomerlennials” to the American lexicon. It identifies those free spirits of both generations seeking various forms of activity and activism.
For Boomers it’s the freedom to reconnect with old tendencies from their youth; like Millennials, taking chances and grabbing the gusto in natural surroundings.
In Indian River County’s communities of Vero Beach, Fellsmere and Sebastian, visitors can enjoy a bounty of youthful engagement, and all in just a long weekend.

FRIDAY NIGHT SCENES TO EXPLORE
After checking into your beachfront hotel, take in the sights along Ocean Drive. Within a few block walk you’ll find a wide selection of restaurants, beach pubs, shops and more. For dinner check out Ocean Grill, Cobalt, The Tides, or the Wave Kitchen & Bar. Just want a nightcap – Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill will do the trick. Looking for the “Last Great Hangout?” Well, it’s Waldo’s beach bar — located at the Historic Driftwood Resort, where people have been lining up for food, libations and music nightly for over 75 years. A stylish outpost with a patio, located on the barrier island across from Waldo’s, Grind + Grape offer espresso drinks during the day, wine and live music at night; food, too. Or, for a simply sweet dessert treat check out Kilwin’s Ice Cream shop.
SATURDAY SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND MAKE DISCOVERIES
It’s a glorious day and all about discovering the beach and it’s hidden gems. Several activities to choose from include:
LUNCH:
At some point you’ll need to get a bit of solid (and liquid) sustenance. Let us recommend the local brewpub scene. American Icon Brewery is housed in former diesel power plant on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Besides multiple IPAs, Pale Ales, Pilsners and Ales on tap, wines are served and there’s a full food menu too. Orchid Island Brewery — a block from the Atlantic on the barrier island — features citrusy brews using certified local fruit, plus farm-to-table eats. Walking Tree Brewery earned “Best Florida Beer” and “Best Small Brewery” awards in the 2017 Best Florida Beer Professional Championship and its Stout won 3rd place in the national competition. WTB features fire pits, life-size Jenga game pieces, and Saturday morning yoga classes. Customers are welcome to bring food or order delivery to the brewery. Pareidolia Brewing is Sebastian’s first and only nano-brewery (three-barrel brewhouse) and specializes in handcrafted, small batch ales.
AFTERNOON EXCURSION OPTIONS:
DINNER/NIGHTLIFE:
Time to discover Downtown Vero. Downtown Vero Beach is enjoying a renaissance with nightlife activities, nightspots, gallery strolls, and restaurants. Southern Social in downtown Vero is a local’s favorite for handcrafted cocktails along with its chef-driven menu. Its slogan: Where rustic meets refined. A funky neighborhood pub also located in downtown Vero, Kilted Mermaid offers 25 local and global wines by the glass and 80+ craft and import beers, plus sandwiches, cheese plates and the like. Fridays and Saturdays feature original live music; every third Sunday there’s comedy open mike. The Crab Stop Vero Beach is a humble eatery serving up classic seafood grub. Special Note: On the first Friday evening of every month, the Downtown Arts District opens its doors (and runs a trolley) for the public to stroll and explore its many offerings.
SUNDAY IS FUN DAY
Toes in the sand, watercraft and wave encounters. Embark on a surfing safari at Sebastian Inlet State Park, one of the prime surfing spots in the eastern US. Sebastian Inlet also features three miles of beautiful beaches and is a favored spot for catching snook, redfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel.
Orchid Island Bikes & Kayaks is your “fun in the sun headquarters.” Located just off US Hwy 1, Orchid Island is the Treasure Coast’s premier rental and sales center for beach bicycles, e-bikes, kayaks, paddleboards and more.
On your way out of town, do a drive-by and view the two outdoor sculpture parks at the Vero Beach Museum of Art or check out the grounds of “Historic Dodgertown” aka Jackie Robinson Training Complex. On January 2, 2019 Major League Baseball assumed control of Historic Dodgertown — the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers spring training home until 2008 — and renamed it after color-barrier-breaking Dodger Jackie Robinson. It opened in 1948 as the first fully integrated spring training site in the South; the complex was recently added to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail.
